History

Yalıköy is a neighborhood in the Çatalca district of Istanbul, formerly known as Podima. Yalıköy has undergone significant demographic change during the Ottoman period and the population exchange following the Treaty of Lausanne. In the past, Yalıköy was a haunt of pirates and over time it has gained different economic structures.

Culture and Tourism

The cultural structure of Yalıköy is based on the traditional lifestyle in the village. The villagers live a quieter life, far from the big cities. In terms of social life, the villagers generally spend their lives in the village and the sea and forest around it. The tourism sector in Yalıköy is not very developed, the reasons for this are; the village is not very well known, the number of days when the sea is wavy is high and the depth level increases rapidly as it progresses, the mayors do not invest in the village, the transportation conditions are poor and insufficient public transportation opportunities. For this reason, the number of visitors in the village is limited and the majority of those who come, except for holidays, are day trippers.

Nature and Geography

Yalıköy is located on the Black Sea coast and attracts attention with its natural beauty. The village is surrounded by forests, beaches, and various water sources. Natural areas are especially interesting for nature lovers. Activities such as nature walks, camping, and fishing can be done in these areas. Warning: Hunting is allowed in Yalıköy.

Economy

The economy of Yalıköy is mainly based on mining, transportation, forestry and fishing activities. Mining is the main economic activity in the village. Quartzite quarries and quartzite processing activities play an important role in providing a livelihood for the local people. The processed mineral extracted from the quartzite quarries in Yalıköy is used in the glass industry and this business is the most important business in the village.

Agriculture and Livestock

Today, agriculture in Yalıköy consists only of garden farming done by the villagers for themselves. In addition, cattle and sheep breeding is also done on a limited scale.                                                                                                      Administrative Structure
